Hybrid Volvo to appear in 2012

30v1vmaVolvo is planning to bring to Swedish market a serial hybrid car with a diesel-electric power plant in 2012. The model is notable for the fact that its lithium-ion batteries will be able to be charged not only with regenerative braking, and during the internal combustion engine, but also from ordinary household electricity (it will take about five hours).

Volvo has been involved in the development of a hybrid car for already two years. The development of the car is done in cooperation with the Vattenfall company, which is also developing a system of high-speed home charging and fixed charging stations, where owners pay to fuel with electricity instead of petrol or diesel.

According to the auto manufacturer more details about the work of hybrids are expected to appear later. For now it is know that the prototype was built on the basis of universal V70 Diesel-Electric plug-in hybrid models which will emit into the atmosphere an average of no more than 50 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

It should be mentioned, that the first three prototypes of Volvo V70 electric diesel-hybrid will be introduced to the public this summer.

The first hybrid concept with the possibility of charging from 220 V network called ReCharge Volvo was first introduced in autumn 2007.
