Chinadaily.com reported this information with reference to the local edition of National Business Daily.

Official representatives of parties have not yet commented on a transaction of this information. According to Chinese media, after the purchase Geely plans to expand the production of Volvo cars in China. In particular, the company will build a factory in the city of Dongguan, Guangzhou Province, for the production of crossovers Volvo XC90, which are now collected in the United States.

The deal between Geely and Ford has not yet been disclosed, but according to experts, the American group is unlikely to sell Volvo brand for less than three billion U.S. dollars.

Previously, it was reported that China may soon buy another well-known global brand – GM Concern agreed to sell the Hummer brand of Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery for U.S. $ 500 million. This transaction is expected to be completed by autumn this year. However, for the purchase of an American manufacturer of SUVs, Sichuan Tengzhong must obtain approval of the Chinese Government, which could veto any foreign investment in excess of the amount of 100 million U.S. dollars.

Volvo is planning to bring to Swedish market a serial hybrid car with a diesel-electric power plant in 2012. The model is notable for the fact that its lithium-ion batteries will be able to be charged not only with regenerative braking, and during the internal combustion engine, but also from ordinary household electricity (it will take about five hours).

Volvo has been involved in the development of a hybrid car for already two years. The development of the car is done in cooperation with the Vattenfall company, which is also developing a system of high-speed home charging and fixed charging stations, where owners pay to fuel with electricity instead of petrol or diesel.

According to the auto manufacturer more details about the work of hybrids are expected to appear later. For now it is know that the prototype was built on the basis of universal V70 Diesel-Electric plug-in hybrid models which will emit into the atmosphere an average of no more than 50 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

It should be mentioned, that the first three prototypes of Volvo V70 electric diesel-hybrid will be introduced to the public this summer.

The first hybrid concept with the possibility of charging from 220 V network called ReCharge Volvo was first introduced in autumn 2007.
