GM Began Testing Hybrid Chevrolet Volt

The company General Motors has begun testing the preproduction prototype of “plug hybrid” Chevrolet Volt. According to the American edition of Automobile, the tests of the vehicle are conducted in an urban setting close to the testing center of the group in the city of Warren, Michigan. In the near future the company plans to build a total of 80 copies of hybrid Volt, which will continue testing until the model is available in the market.

Serial Chevrolet Volt is planned to be equipped with the hybrid power unit that includes a 150-strong motor and lithium-ion batteries. For charging the batteries in the move a 1.4-liter gasoline engine will be used. At the parking the car can be charged from ordinary household power supply. It is expected that one battery power will be sufficient to ensure Sedan Chevrolet Volt motion for approximately 64 kilometers.

The production of commodity Chevrolet Volt will be established at the Detroit GM plant in November of next year. According to preliminary data, the cost of such hybrids will be about 40 thousand dollars.

Company Chevrolet unveiled the technical characteristics and cost of an updated 2010 model year sports Corvette Z06, which is scheduled to go on sale today. Under the hood of the car there is a strong petrol engine LS7 7.0L V8 with 505hp, allowing to accelerate up to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds.

An updated Chevrolet Corvette Z06 differs from its predecessor with the availability of a new system of engine start, side airbags included as standard, as well as eight variations of body painting. The price of 2010 model year Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is 75,235 USD, which is only 300 dollars more than the cost of the previous version.

And now 2010 model year Chevrolet Aveo Sedan under the name of Lova is available for sale in the Chinese market.

2010 Aveo Sedan has received a number of updates that have made the car more attractive. The first thing that draws attention is a modified grille, similar to the lattice of Chevrolet Captiva, the front bumper and optics, which is adopted from the Chevrolet Sruze.

Also, the car got a few elements in the form of a new hatch, side mirrors and rims that complement the image of new items.

2010 Chevrolet Aveo engine line consists of three units: 1.2-liter with the capacity of 64 power, 1.4-liter with the capacity of 6.9 and 1.6-liter engine with the capacity of 7.8 hp.

Engines come with a 5-speed with the mechanics or a 4- speed automatic transmission, with the exception of 1,2-liter engine, which receives only a manual gearbox. Emissions from these engines in the combined cycle ranged from 4.7 to 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers, depending on the transmission and engine volume.

Chevrolet released the 1.5-millionth Corvette

On Thursday the company Chevrolet has distributed information on the release of the 1.5-millionth copy of Corvette supercar. The car came down the conveyor in the plant in Kentucky in late May of this year, but the message of this event was delayed by manufacturer due to bankruptcy of General Motors.

The jubilee car will be sent to the National Museum of “Corvettes”, where are also presented the very first Chevrolet Corvette, built in 1953, the 500000th copy (1977 release) and the millionth copy (1992). 1.5-millionth Chevrolet Corvette is made in the same colors as the predecessors – white body with red interior.

As reported at the museum, the first Corvette – roadster C1 – was introduced in 1953. The car was equipped with a six-motor power of 150 horsepower and automatic transmission. Modern versions are offered with a super eight engine capacity from 430 to 638 horsepower, working in pairs with six automatic or mechanical transmissions.

The replacement of Chevrolet Aveo is postponed until 2011

The replacement of Chevrolet’s Aveo has been postponed until January 2011 due to the well-publicized financial troubles at General Motors and its Korean subsidiary, Daewoo. The Aveo’s replacement, previously codenamed T300, had been expected to bow in April of 2010.

Daewoo has reported a whopping 44.5-percent decline in total vehicle sales, which comes as particularly bad news for The General since the Korean automaker accounts for a quarter of GM’s total production. Much of the production is being lost to rivals like Kia and Hyundai in oh-so-important emerging market of China, where Daewoo’s sales dropped by 3.2-percent even in the face of an expanding market.

It has been reported that GM Daewoo is seeking additional loans from the Korea Development Bank after running through all $2 billion of its available credit lines, in effort to keep the doors open in the face of such heavy losses.
